Why do I teach Pilates?

Eeek! Well this is scary…. I never, ever thought that I would be writing a blog!

It’s something that had never crossed my mind (I thought it was something that geeky teenage boys did), 7auntil Carla, my web developer, told me "is an absolute must" if I’m having a website! So here I go….

Why do I teach Pilates?

I absolutely love Pilates and I truly say this from the bottom of my heart. I think that it can change your life and your body!

About 7 years ago I had to have pretty major back surgery. My Mum and Dad have both had back operations (several times between them) and my consultant told me that my disc problems, were more than likely down to genetics. Four out of the five lumbar discs in my back were pretty bad, which obviously led to a lot of pain.

After the operation on my L4, L5 disc, I decided to get fit and start taking care of myself! My surgeon recommended Pilates and this is when my love affair with these beautiful moves began.

1dI love the flow of Pilates and how the moves come together, there is almost a ballet feel to some of the moves and when they are performed correctly, they are performed with grace and fluidity.

The exercises are tough and you really feel as if you have had a full body workout after an hours class. But I find that I am always mentally relaxed after a class, as you really have to concentrate on the moves, which means that forget about all of your other worries.

It didn’t take long for me to start feeling the full effects of the exercises, my body really started to change and not just aesthetically, my back began to feel stronger that it ever had.

I tried several teachers over the years, some I loved and some I didn’t love quite as much!! I eventually found Juliet, the Pilates teacher that really ignited my passion for these beautiful moves!

My four boys had started to grow up by this stage and I realised that I wanted to go back to work when the youngest started school. I didn’t really want to go back to sitting at an office desk, firstly because it is soooo bad for you and secondly, because I can’t sit still!

It came to me in class one day, that Pilates was the only job for me! I wanted to help people feel good about themselves, get them moving and out of pain.

I have trained under the most wonderful teacher, Joanne Cobbe of JPilates and feel very privileged to have done so. Jo was the Principle Tutor of the Pilates Institute (need I say more)?!

If you fancy coming along and trying a class to see why I love Pilates so much, please feel free to contact me at any time. I’m sure that after a couple of sessions, you will understand why I love it so much!
